Classical Pilates for Modern Life

(Harmonious Pilates, Inc. original publication)

Shining light on Pilates truths, honoring Joseph Pilates,

and supporting you in your Pilates journey.

If you care about your posture...

You want to watch my video a couple of times and then set your device up and find a wall of a securely closed door :), press start and follow me.

Like anything classical Pilates, just performing an exercise once and forming an opinion or having feelings about it is a "No", "No".

One must dive deep into the exercise layer by layer.

Here are some layers to consider:

  • Choreography
  • Placement of my body in the video versus placement of your body
  • Which muscles to activate
  • How to breathe
  • What challenges you  need to address in your Pilates practice: the ability to access abdominal muscles, the ability to tilt the pelvis, stiffness of the neck, upper back, and lower back

As always, when performing a Pilates exercise focus, be precise, and be patient. :)

"Wall" exercise

Joseph Pilates on his method of Contrology

"Good posture can be successfully acquired only when the entire mechanism of the body is under perfect control. Graceful carriage follows as a matter of course. Just as a good smooth-running automobile engine is the result of proper parts correctly assembled so that it operates with minimum consumption of gasoline and oil with comparatively little wear, so too is the proper functioning of your body the direct result of the assembled Contrology exercises that produce harmonious structure we term physical fitness reflecting itself in a coordinated and balanced tripart unity of body, mind, and sprit.
