    Unexpected Therapy
Calm Your Nerves and Quiet Your Mind with Pilates.
Meditation is known to offer relief by changing your state of mind.Â
But if sitting or lying still feels too challenging when your nerves are frayed, Pilates can be a calming alternative. Engaging in deliberate, thoughtful movement can help âslow downâ the rush of thoughts that fuel anxiety.
How?
- Most Pilates exercises are done lying down, a position that naturally encourages relaxation in the shoulders, neck, lower back, hips, arms, hands, and even the toes.
- Lying down also supports blood circulation and reduces the cardiovascular load, allowing you to ease tension in ways you might not even realize.
- As you move through all exercises with proper form, paired with intentional breathing, youâll begin to tune out external distractions and tune into your bodyâs sensations and needs.
- The rhythmic flow of Pilates exercises from one to the next fosters a state of mindfulness, where anxiety loosens its grip, thoughts slow down, and tension weakens.Â
But this calming effect of Pilates isnât tied to using a specific apparatus or Pilates mat. Rather, it is tied to the order in which you perform the exercises.
Traditional (classical) Pilates on the Reformer and Mat, has a specific order of movements designed to flow from one to the next. An attribute that not only keeps the body fully integrated for the duration of the workout but keeps the mind focused. The effect is what you need: the focused movement that transforms your mental state calms your thoughts, slows down your heart rate, and helps you regain control over your mind.
     Â
So ask for "movement in order"Â wherever you get your Pilates from.Â
Happy Pilates:)
